The recent meeting between Agikuyu Council of elders and the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has raised mixed reactions with young leaders from Geta Ward in Kipipiri Constituency, Nyandarua County urging them to stand firm against being manipulated for political gains.
The young leaders led by Wamaratu Chege warned that accepting some leaders from the region to hurl insults and disrespect those in power could cause unrest which will eventually harm the community.
Wamaratu said it is wise for the elders not to take sides and meet both the opposition and government wing to foster harmony and not stir rivalry.
He at the same time called for unity of the Mount Kenya region ahead of the 2027 general elections while blasting leaders who have been seen engaging in politics of division, warning that such moves risked sowing discord and weakening the community’s political standing.
Furthermore, they pledged their support for the current administration noting that since it got into power, Geta Ward has seen development projects which for decades were just mere stories.
They at the same time emphasized the need for dialogue that fosters unity and mutual respect, noting the importance of constructive engagement over partisan political maneuvering.
