Multi-agency security teams operating under Operation Maliza Uhalifu successfully recovered 24 stolen livestock following a response to a banditry incident.
A report of livestock stolen from the Ntangilia area in Tigania East, Meru County, was received, prompting the immediate deployment of a joint security team.
The team established strategic ambushes along known criminal escape routes. The suspects were intercepted in the Chumvi area, where a fierce exchange of fire ensued, but the security team overpowered the bandits and recovered all the livestock, which were handed over to the owner at Gambela Centre after identification.
“This successful operation once again demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated multi-agency security efforts under Operation Maliza Uhalifu. The operation continues to strengthen rapid response capabilities, enhance security presence, and disrupt criminal activities in the region,” NPS said in a statement.
This comes days after police officers from Ilbisil Police Station in Oloililai Sub-County have successfully recovered 29 stolen donkeys and apprehended a key suspect following a swift dawn operation.
The recovery operation was triggered by intelligence from the local administration. The officers intercepted the animals being driven from Lorngosua towards Bisil Township and arrested one suspect, while two managed to flee.
The suspect was placed in custody for further police processing. A multi-agency manhunt is actively under way to track down and apprehend the two accomplices who fled.
Twenty-five donkeys have already been positively identified and handed over to their owners, while four are pending identification.
