Fed up with the relentless nudges from family, Lulu Jemimah, an Oxford student decided to tie the knot with none other than herself, sending a message that her happiness doesn’t hinge on anyone else.

In a ceremony that’s equal parts unconventional and empowering, she exchanged vows with herself, pledging to love, honour, and cherish her own journey, regardless of societal norms.

Her solo matrimonial adventure is sparking conversations about independence, self-love, and breaking away from the mould.

She’s boldly rewriting the script of her life, showing that sometimes, the most important relationship you can have is the one with yourself.

Lulu’s friends chipped in the budget and she ended up spending less than Ksh 300 shillings

In the heart of Uganda, Lulu orchestrated a shoestring ceremony that echoed her determination to live life on her terms.

Her friends rallied by her side, the embodiment of her support system. With their help, she orchestrated an unforgettable day, all while keeping her wallet intact.

Amid the whispers of confusion and raised eyebrows from her parents, Lulu’s conviction shone like a beacon. Her mother’s sleepless nights of prayers for a suitable husband didn’t deter her.

She said:

‘My father wrote my wedding speech when I turned 16. Every birthday my mother prayed for me and in recent years this has included a plea for a good husband

With an Oxford education under her belt, she wasn’t swayed by societal norms. Instead, she embarked on a unique journey of self-affirmation.

Lulu is pursuing a master’s degree in creative writing at one of the most esteemed universities.
