The murder trial of teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang continued before the Kibera High Court on Wednesday, with the prosecution presenting CCTV footage showing police officers transporting him from Central Police Station to Mbagathi Hospital in the early hours of June 9, 2025.
The footage, presented in court, showed a police Land Cruiser arriving at the hospital’s casualty bay at around 2:00 a.m. carrying Ojwang’s body. It further captured police officers taking the body into the hospital, where it remained for about 10 minutes before it was returned to the vehicle.
The vehicle was then seen leaving the hospital with the body, marking the final segment of CCTV evidence documenting Ojwang’s movements on the night he died.
The prosecution team was led by Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Jalson Makori, Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Wangui Gichuhi and Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Duncan Ondimu.
The court also heard testimony from Joseph Mutua, the Head of Forensics at the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), who was recalled as the fourth prosecution witness.
Mutua told the court that he prepared and signed the forensic exhibit containing the CCTV footage obtained from Mbagathi Hospital, alongside a forensic report and the necessary supporting certificates.
He testified that the footage had undergone forensic examination and was certified as authentic, adding that investigators established it had not been tampered with or altered.
During the hearing, the court was also taken through a reconstruction of Ojwang’s final moments following his arrest and detention.
Mutua testified that Ojwang was taken to Central Police Station after his arrest on June 7, 2025, before later being transported to Mbagathi Hospital, where the CCTV footage documented the police officers’ movements.
Ojwang died after his alleged arrest and detention at Central Police Station on 7th June 2025.
Six people have been charged with his murder, including former Central Police Station Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Samson Kiprotich Talaam. The other accused are James Mukhwana, Peter Kimani, John Ngige Gitau, Gin Ammitou Abwao and Brian Mwaniki Njue.
Justice Diana Kavedza-Mochache adjourned the hearing to December 14, 2026, when the trial will resume.
