Gor Mahia rescued a late point after playing out a 1–1 draw with Posta Rangers in a rescheduled FKF Premier League match at Nyayo National Stadium on Thursday.
The league leaders were hoping to stretch their advantage at the summit but were forced to settle for a share of the points after coming from behind late in the game.
Posta Rangers made a bright start and took the lead in the seventh minute through midfielder Jackson Macharia. The former Tusker player finished off an early opportunity to give the Mailmen a surprise advantage.
Gor Mahia responded quickly and came close to drawing level in the 10th minute when defender Jackson Dwang struck the post with a powerful effort.
The visitors continued to push forward in search of an equaliser, while Posta held on to their lead going into the break.
The second half saw Gor Mahia increase the pressure as they chased the match, but Posta remained compact at the back.
With time running out, Gor Mahia eventually found the breakthrough in the 87th minute when striker Ebenezer Assifuah converted to level the scores.
The Ghanaian forward has repeatedly delivered important goals for the record Kenyan champions since joining during the January transfer window.
Ten minutes of added time were played, but neither side managed to find a winner as the match ended 1–1.
The result keeps Gor Mahia at the top of the FKF Premier League standings with 50 points, though their lead over AFC Leopards in second place is now reduced to seven points.
Posta Rangers, meanwhile, moved to 25 points from 23 matches and remain 13th on the table. The Mailmen have registered five wins, ten draws and eight defeats so far this season.
