Athletics Kenya names six-member team for World Indoor Championships

Athletics Kenya has unveiled a six-member squad that will represent the country at the upcoming World Athletics Indoor Championships scheduled for March 20–22 in Kujawy Pomorze, Poland.

In a statement released Wednesday, the federation said the selected team blends experienced runners with rising talent as Kenya targets strong performances on the global indoor stage.

Among those selected is 400m runner Brian Omari Tinega, who will carry the country’s hopes in the one-lap race.

In the 800m men’s event, the team has picked Noah Kibet, a promising athlete expected to challenge some of the world’s top indoor competitors.

Kenya will also field a strong entrant in the 3000m through Jacob Krop, who brings international experience and strong finishing ability to the event.

On the women’s side, Mercy Adongo Oketch will compete in the 400m race, while Rosemary Longisa lines up in the 800m. The team will also rely on Susan Lokayo Ejore in the 1500m women’s event.

According to Athletics Kenya, the championships will bring together the world’s best indoor athletes in what is expected to be a highly competitive three-day contest.

The federation expressed confidence in the selected runners, noting that the mix of emerging athletes and seasoned performers provides Kenya with a balanced team.

Indoor competitions are traditionally dominated by athletes from Europe and North America due to their familiarity with indoor tracks.

However, Kenya has in recent years increasingly fielded athletes in such events as part of efforts to broaden its presence beyond outdoor distance races.
