Canada-based Kenyan lawyer Miguna Miguna has cautioned President William Ruto against what he terms as “betraying the people.”

During his campaigns, President Ruto promised Kenyans to prioritise fixing the ailing economy and reducing the high cost of living.

However, Miguna says that the recent political developments in the country are a cause for concern, as President Ruto seems to go out of line.

In order to settle the post-2022 election political impasse, President Ruto has given the go-ahead for bi-partisan talks between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio-One Kenya Coalition.

Constitutional Amendments debate

Among the agendas of these talks is the entrenchment of the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and the Office of the Official Opposition Leader into the Constitution.

These agendas have elicited a national debate about whether Kenya needs a constitutional change.

The outspoken lawyer insists that Kenya does not need a constitutional amendment process at the moment, especially not when the economy is in “tatters”, the Shilling is dropping against the U.S. dollar, and the cost of living is worsening.

Miguna insists that the 2010 Constitution has not been fully implemented.
