Kenyan artist Judith nyambura Mwangi, popularly known as Avril, has shared updates about her close friend and fellow musician Marya, revealing encouraging information regarding her health following a stroke.
In an interview on TV47’s Dr Ofweneke Tonight show on Wednesday, September 3, Avril stated that Marya is improving significantly due to continuous physiotherapy.
“She’s genuinely much improved. Physical therapy has been very beneficial,” Avril explained. “When a person has a stroke, their muscles lose strength, so it’s necessary to continually exercise them to regain strength.”
Marya, recognized for her popular track Chokoza, had maintained a low profile lately, but her fans were happy to witness her return to social media, appearing more resilient.
Regarding music, Ofweneke inquired of Avril about the new artists she has been enjoying recently. She readily mentioned the up-and-coming RnB artist Zaituni.
“Her Swahili RnB is stunning. Kindly give her album a listen. Her music is truly wonderful, and her voice is simply incredible,” Avril stated, noting that a track titled Tamu is among her favourites.
When Ofweneke joked that she might be overhyping the artist, Avril stood her ground that Zaituni’s skill is self-evident. “No, actually, she has really good music.”
The singer also touched on her enduring love for Sauti Sol’s Bien, calling him ‘inevitable’. “Even if you’re not listening to Bien, you’re listening to Bien,” she said, praising his widespread influence.
