Nairobi is preparing for an unforgettable December as Blankets & Wine returns with its Kenyan Summer 2025 edition, a festival that promises the kind of joyous, full-body release only music can deliver. Set for December 21 at Laureate Gardens, Kasarani, this year’s theme, “COME WE DANCE!”, isn’t just an invitation; it’s a declaration that in a world full of uncertainty, rhythm remains a reliable refuge.
What makes this edition especially resonant is its deepened cultural bridge between Kenya and the UK. After a triumphant debut in Bradford earlier this year under the British Council’s UK/Kenya Season 2025, the festival now flows back into Nairobi with renewed creative energy. The cross-continental exchange continues to prove that African sound travels effortlessly and powerfully.
A major highlight of this cultural loop is the arrival of British Funky House icon Donae’o, whose hits “Party Hard” and “I’m Fly” have long shaped London’s dance floors. His Nairobi appearance underscores how African and UK music scenes are feeding into each other more dynamically than ever.
And yet, the heart of the festival beats firmly on African soil. This year’s lineup is a vibrant showcase of the artists shaping the continent’s sound right now. South African powerhouses Scorpion Kings bring the Amapiano wave; Tanzania’s Marioo represents East Africa’s melodic pulse; Kenya’s own Iyanii, Matata, Okello Max, Bridgit Blue, Elsy Wameyo, Ssaru, and Shad Mziki add depth, color, and unmistakable local flair. South Africa’s feel-good trio MiCasa rounds out the headline roster with their infectious blend of house, jazz, and soul.
As day turns to night, the Onja Onja Stage takes over with high-energy sets from Foozak, Drommer, Tina Ardor, Ms. Mika, Darkfruit, Shishi, and a final back-to-back takeover by Aly Fresh, Mura, and Big Nyagz a lineup engineered to keep bodies moving long after sunset.
Beyond music, the festival continues its evolution as a cultural hub. The much-loved Onja Onja Market returns, spotlighting Kenyan fashion, food, art, and lifestyle brands, a timely platform for holiday shoppers and a meaningful boost for local creatives.
Now in its 17th year, Blankets & Wine stands as a testament to endurance, reinvention, and the power of cultural storytelling through sound. Kenyan Summer 2025 isn’t just another festival; it’s a reminder that even in unpredictable times, Africa’s rhythm remains unstoppable and everyone is invited to dance.
