CAF unveils stunning new Champions League trophy in Johannesburg

The Confederation of African Footaball (CAF) has officially revealed the brand-new CAF Champions League trophy at a high-profile ceremony in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The event, held at South African Headquarters, brought together African football legends such as Lucas Radebe, Teko Modise, and Siphiwe Tshabalala, alongside key football leaders and dignitaries, symbolizing a bold new chapter for Africa’s premier club competition.

The unveiling marks more than just a change in design—it is a major step in CAF’s ongoing mission to modernize and elevate the stature of African club football.

One of the two finalists, Mamelodi Sundowns or Pyramids FC, will make history by lifting the gleaming new trophy at the end of this season’s epic showdown.

The new trophy is a striking blend of sleek silver and gold lines, drawing inspiration from Africa’s fierce competition and rich cultural heritage.

At the trophy’s peak, a golden sphere adorned with African symbolism represents the ultimate prize: victory. The contrasting elements of silver and gold celebrate both the triumph of the champions and the honour of worthy opponents, reinforcing the spirit of respect, ambition, and excellence that defines the continent’s football.

CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba emphasized the significance of the new trophy as part of a broader strategy to rebrand and reposition African football, with a special focus on interclub competitions.

“In line with the vision of the CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe, we are rebranding and repositioning African football,” said Mosengo-Omba.

“This trophy reflects our goals and bold steps toward an exciting African club football environment. With this, we aim to elevate the stature of African club competitions to global prominence, strengthen our commercial appeal, and inspire a new generation of footballing talent.”
