“CDF changed our lives”: Endebess residents back Amendment Bill

The residents of Endebess Constituency, Trans-Nzoia County, gathered with one voice and a clear message, “Protect the CDF, it has transformed our lives.”

As public participation on the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2025 kicked off in the region, residents shared stories of how the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) has uplifted generations and built hope where there once was none.

“We only had seven schools, now we have 28, thanks to NGCDF,” said Mzee Kiptanui, a local elder. “Our children used to reach 12 years before setting foot in a classroom. Now, schools are just a short walk away, and our children are in class, not on the streets.”

For many residents, the fund has meant more than just classrooms. It’s meant dignity, opportunity, and a real chance at a better life.

Through bursaries funded by NG-CDF, learners from needy backgrounds have transitioned from primary school to university, breaking generational cycles of poverty.

“We used to lose our kids to drugs and idleness,” shared Mama Naliaka, a mother of five. “But with bursaries and nearby schools, we’ve reclaimed our youth and their futures.”

The infrastructure has also brought administrative and security services closer. “Even our chiefs’ offices and police stations were built using the fund,” she added.

During the forum, one resident appealed, “Mtu anataka kuondoa CDF ni mtu hapendi Wakenya. Hii CDF imetusaidia maisha.”

“Huko Bunge vote YES, bila CDF tungekua wapi?” Said a resident to MP Pukose. “The people of Endebess are a testament to what CDF can do. I will carry your voices to Parliament and stand with you in support of this amendment.”

Residents further urged both Parliament and the Executive to establish a Teachers Training College (TTC) and a public university in Endebess, saying the area is now ready to host institutions of higher learning.

“Tafadhali tuletee TTC na university moja Endebess. Tunaomba Rais atusikie”, one resident pleaded.

There was overwhelming concern over the idea of devolving the fund to county governments. “CDF has worked because it’s transparent, direct, and responsive. If it’s handed to counties, we fear it will disappear like other services,” said John Wanyonyi, a resident.

As the country debates the future of NG-CDF and NGAAF, one thing is clear in Endebess, the fund is not just about projects, it’s about people.
