Civil servants in Siaya County have been put on notice following a poor turnout at this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium.
With attendance falling below 200 people, County Commissioner Norbert Komora expressed disappointment over the absence of many public officers.
Before delivering the President’s speech, Mr. Komora directed Deputy County Commissioner Robert Ng’etich and his assistant to conduct a roll call of all civil servants present. He warned that those who failed to attend would be required to submit written explanations.
Mr. Komora stated that national celebrations are not optional for civil servants, noting that such event provide a platform for engaging with the public and addressing their concerns.
The Commissioner further announced that absentee officers would receive show cause letters and urged those unwilling to serve the government to consider resigning. He added that if they cannot honor their duty to the nation, then they have no business being in public service.
Mr. Komora also took a moment to thank the government and President William Ruto for granting former Prime Minister Raila Odinga a state burial, describing the late Odinga as one of Kenya’s greatest heroes.
Speaking at the same event, Siaya Deputy County Commissioner Robert Ng’etich, extended his best wishes to students preparing for their final examinations starting tomorrow.
He also encouraged young people to register as voters during the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise and noted that efforts were underway to streamline national ID registration.
