Homa Bay Governor and ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga has insisted that the Orange Democratic Movement must form part of the next government, saying the party will play a key role in shaping the country’s leadership beyond the 2027 General Election.
Speaking at the Homa Bay County Assembly during her State of the County Address, Wanga said ODM will support President William Ruto in his quest for a second term, dismissing calls by some leaders advocating for a one-term presidency.
According to the governor, the government has implemented several development projects in the Nyanza region, which she said have significantly contributed to economic growth.
Wanga noted that ongoing infrastructure and development initiatives in the region are already improving livelihoods and strengthening the local economy, adding that the progress should be supported to continue.
On the 2027 elections, the ODM chairperson said the party expects to secure a significant share in government, including key appointments.
She maintained that ODM should get at least half of the government positions if it supports the formation of the next administration.
Wanga also threw her support behind the proposed National Infrastructure Fund, saying the initiative will play a major role in implementing development priorities under the government’s ten-point agenda.
The governor further revealed that seven out of the ten priorities in the agenda have already been implemented, noting that the remaining issues will be addressed progressively.
She added that concerns raised in the report led by Agnes Zani will also be implemented in phases, including by future administrations.
