University of Nairobi students threaten daily protests until Friday over lecturers’ strike

Frustration has reached a critical point at the University of Nairobi as students confront the heavy fall out of the ongoing lecturers strike.

With the lecturers strike going on for almost a month, academic progress has been brought to a stand still. The students body has now come together to demand immediate attention and a lasting solution from the concerned authorities.

Public Universities have experienced widespread paralysis due to a standoff between the lecturers and the government. Due to the strike there are now empty lecture halls, unattended coursework and uncertainity for a lot of students.

For nearly a month students have watched their academic schedules go to a stand still with no information whatsoever when a solution will be found or when classes will resume.

Because of this strike, University of Nairobi students have mentioned that there will be a series of demonstrations daily which are to run up until Friday, October 30,2026.

The student leadership has mentioned that these protests were their last resort and aimed at compelling both parties, that is the lecturers and the government to find a common ground. The strike transitioned from being a simple labour disagreement to a direct threat to the students core academic milestones.

Students are fearful that the delays will cause a strain on their upcoming examinations, disrupt semester transitions and also delay scheduled graduation deadlines.

As the Friday deadline is fast approaching a lot of pressure is building on education stakeholders to negotiate a fast compromise.
