Construction of a massive 10,000 housing units in Konza City as well as its supporting infrusttructure under the Affordable Housing Program has commenced with the President Dr William Ruto laying the foundation stone for the first phase of the project.
1000 housing units will be constructed in phase one, while another 1,998 units will be constructed in phase two with the rest coming up in phase three.
The project is set to provide employment opportunities to over 3,000 people directly and indirectly while at the same time spurring the manufacturing sector through supply of materials.
Phase one of the project comprises eleven residential blocks, Type A (4 blocks), Type B (5 blocks), and Type C (2 blocks)offering a balanced mix of social, affordable, and market-rate categories.
Other ammenties include a kindergarten, outdoor children’s play area, basketball court, landscaped green spaces, clothes drying areas, clubhouse, borehole, and backup generator, promoting integrated, family-friendly, and sustainable living within a secure environment.
Currently over 400 workers predominantly local youth and women are engaged at the site, supported by professionals from the built environment.
The project has further integrated the Machakos Town Jua Kali Association into its supply chain through ringfenced contracts worth over KES 80 million for the fabrication of steel doors, windows
Phase two will will consist of twenty-one residential blocks of social, affordable, and market rate housing units.
The project integrates essential public amenities including a kindergarten, Level 3 hospital, community centre, mixed-use development (MUD), primary and secondary schools, outdoor play areas, basketball court, landscaped green spaces, clubhouse, borehole, and backup generator, fostering a complete and resilient neighbourhood.
Ground prepartion works are ongoing with about 200 workers, currently engaged onsite. The Workforce numbers are expected to rise significantly as superstructure and finishing works progress, creating further opportunities for artisans, technicians, and suppliers.
The developer has partnered with the Machakos Town Jua Kali Association through ring-fenced contracts worth over KES 180 million for the fabrication of steel doors, windows, balustrades, and other fittings—ensuring that value remains within the local economy.
