Dangerous Mtwapa gangster arrested, 5 bullets recovered from his house

Police in Mtwapa, Kilifi County, have arrested a notorious gangster linked to several incidences of robbery with violence within the Coast region.

In what authorities describe as “momentum of the ongoing security operation across Coast region gathering pace”, the officers finally arrested David Juma Mweru, who had evaded police dragnet on multiple occasions.

Mweru, a wanted criminal, had managed to evade arrest on several occasions by constantly shifting hideouts in a calculated attempt to stay ahead of police.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) says that the officers acted on actionable intelligence to corner the suspect and effected his arrest without incident.

A police report seen by TV47 Digital says a thorough and detailed search at Mweru’s residence led to the recovery of five (5) rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition carefully wrapped in a yellow carrier bag, a “chilling indicator of potential violent intent”.

The suspect is currently in custody while undergoing further processing as investigations intensify to establish the full extent of his criminal links and possible accomplices.

“This ongoing operation sends a clear and unequivocal message: criminal gangs operating within the Coast region and across the country will find no safe haven,” the DCI says.
