Detectives handling the case of the alleged abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi on Tuesday, May 27 evening arrested the legislator’s close ally.
The sleuths, drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), believe Cyrus Kieru Muhia has a case to answer in the alleged abduction of the MP.
Muhia, authorities say, is the owner of the Subaru Forester believed to have been used to execute the alleged abduction.
Confirming the arrest, the National Police Service (NPS) Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said Muhia is being held at the DCI Headquarters in Nairobi.
“He is the owner of a Subaru Forester which is alleged to have blocked MP Koimburi leading to the his purported abduction,” Muchiri said in a statement seen by TV47 Digital.
Muchiri added that Muhia was being questioned to shed light on what “his role was in the whole matter.”
Koimburi was allegedly abducted outside a church at Mugutha, Kiambu County, on Sunday.
He was later found dumped at a coffee plantation in Kiambu on Monday.
Video footage, which the DCI has been investigating for its authenticity, showed Koimburi being driven away in a silver Subaru Forester bearing civilian registration plates.
So far, investigators have interviewed and recorded statements from five individuals, with several more expected to provide their accounts and particularly MP Koimburi, whom “we shall interview at the earliest opportunity after his family objected to our attempts to reach him.”
The NPS has assured Kenyans that it is committed to uncovering the truth regarding the abduction allegations with the highest standards of professionalism and diligence.
