DCI arrests suspected goon mobiliser and 11 others in Trans-Nzoia crackdown

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested a suspected organiser of violent gangs and 11 other individuals during coordinated operations in Trans-Nzoia County.

In a statement posted on its official X account on Thursday, April 23, 2026, the DCI said the operation was conducted jointly with officers from the Administration Police Service and the General Service Unit, based on intelligence-led investigations.

The suspect, identified as Andrew Kimungui Wamalwa, was arrested following a raid on his residence. According to the DCI, officers recovered items believed to be linked to criminal activities.

Acting on “credible intelligence,” investigators conducted what they described as a “well-planned raid” during which they seized reflector jackets allegedly used for mobilisation, stickers, three swords, and other materials.

Preliminary findings indicate that Wamalwa is suspected to be a key figure behind the mobilisation and financing of violent gangs operating in the Kipsongo area, which authorities say have contributed to insecurity in parts of the county.

“The suspect is a key cog in mobilising goons within Kipsongo area, responsible for a spree of criminal activities that jeopardise the safety and tranquillity of residents,” the statement read.

In a separate but related operation in Mitume and Miti Moja areas of Kitale, officers arrested 11 other suspects. The DCI said stolen items were recovered during the operation.

“Upon arrest, officers recovered laptops, gas cylinders and other items looted from innocent members of the public,” the agency stated.

Those arrested are currently in custody undergoing processing ahead of arraignment. Authorities also indicated that further operations are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects and financiers linked to the networks.

The DCI reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling organised criminal groups, saying the crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to restore safety and order in affected areas of Trans-Nzoia County.
