Drama as cornered trafficker in a Toyota Probox throws away 3 sacks of bhang worth KSh1 million in high-speed chase

MOLO, KENYA – A NACADA multi-agency operation in Molo Town, Nakuru County, has led to the seizure of narcotics with an estimated street value of KSh1 million, following a dramatic chase that saw a suspected drug trafficker abandon his cargo and flee into the night.

The operation, conducted on Monday, March 2 night at around 9:30 PM, was a coordinated effort between officers from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) and the National Police Service (NPS) based in Molo.

According to initial reports, the joint team was acting on specific intelligence regarding a notorious drug trafficker who was in the process of transporting a significant quantity of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa. Officers positioned themselves in the Munju Area of Molo Town, where they spotted a white Toyota Probox matching the description of the vehicle used by the trafficker.

As the team moved in to intercept the vehicle, the driver, realizing he was cornered by authorities, executed a dangerous U-turn in an attempt to evade arrest. A brief pursuit ensued, during which the suspect, in a bid to escape with his freedom, jettisoned the incriminating evidence.

The driver abandoned three large sacks, hurling them from the vehicle as he sped away into the darkness. The officers recovered the sacks, which were found to contain dry plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs.

The items were immediately escorted to Molo Police Station for safe custody and a preliminary forensic examination. Upon inspection, authorities established that the three sacks contained approximately 200 brooms of cannabis. With each broom having an estimated street value of KSh500, the total street value of the seized haul is estimated to be KSh1 million.

The suspect remains at large, and police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the fleeing trafficker. Further investigations and operations in the area are ongoing to dismantle the supply chain.

Following the successful operation, NACADA CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa praised the public for their continued vigilance, noting that this bust was a direct result of intelligence provided by community members.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to the members of the public who continue to play their rightful role in pointing out criminals within our communities,” said Dr. Omerikwa. “This operation in Molo is a testament to the fact that the information provided by citizens is leading to successful operations and making our neighborhoods safer.”

Dr. Omerikwa reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to eradicating the substance abuse menace, confirming that sustained crackdowns against drugs are continuing countrywide.

“These enforcement efforts are ongoing and relentless. We are committed to ensuring that our communities remain safe from the harmful effects of narcotics and psychotropic substances,” he added. “We will not relent in going after those who seek to profit from the destruction of our youth.”
