Drama in Kibera court as woman accused of robbery with violence is denied freedom

Drama unfolded at the Kibera Law Courts after Mary Waithira who is accused of leading a gang to rob a Nairobi businessman at his Karen home, was ordered to remain in police custody until she raises a cash bail of Ksh 50,000.

Waithira, who appeared before Magistrate A.M. Ogonda on Tuesday November 4, 2025, denied charges of intrusion and robbery.

The court heard that she allegedly led a group of goons to steal from the businessman’s residence in March this year.

Tension also gripped the courtroom when Magistrate Ogonda sternly warned Waithira against sending cryptic messages and attempting to lure the investigating officer into night meetings, allegedly to influence the case.

“Kindly stop texting and calling the investigating officer. Use the formal channels, either your counsel or the court,” the magistrate cautioned.

The case will be mentioned on November 26, 2025, at the Kibera Law Courts.
