Former Lugari Member of Parliament (MP) Cyrus Jirongo died on Saturday, December 13 morning following a tragic accident in Naivasha.
Confirming the incident, Naivasha DCIO Isaac Kiama said Jirongo was driving himself from Nakuru heading towards Nairobi when the accident occured at around 3:00 am.
Upon reaching Karai area along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway, Jirongo, driving a Mercedes Benz KCZ 305C, tried to overtake several cars before colliding head-on with an oncoming Climax Company bus.
The report says that Jirongo sustained serious head injuries and died on the spot.
The driver of the bus, Tiras Kamau Githinji, told TV47 Reporter Willy Dennis Njiru that the accident was avoidable, only if Jirongo had given way to a fleet of vehicles that he was overtaking.
The 52-year-old driver says the bus he was driving was full to capacity with 65 passengers. And although he saw Jirongo’s vehicle overtaking, there was nowhere to escape, prompting the head-on-collision.
His body was first moved to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital mortuary and later transferred to the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
