EPRA announces reduction in fuel prices

Motorists and households across Kenya will pay less for fuel over the next month following a reduction in pump prices announced by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) for the January to February 2026 pricing cycle.

The changes take effect from midnight on January 15 and will remain in force until February 14, 2026.

Under the new pricing, Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene have dropped by Ksh2.00, Ksh1.00 and Ksh1.00 per litre, respectively. In Nairobi, this means Super Petrol will retail at Ksh182.52 per litre, Diesel at Ksh170.47, and Kerosene at Ksh153.78. The revised prices are applicable nationwide and include all statutory charges.

EPRA said the adjustments factor in the 16 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT), excise duty, and other charges as provided under the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, and the inflation-adjusted excise duty rates.
“The prices are inclusive of the 16 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024 and the revised rates for excise duty,” EPRA said in its statement.

The authority explained that the drop in prices reflects changes in the cost of importing petroleum products over the past two months.

Kenya depends entirely on imported refined fuel, which makes local pump prices sensitive to fluctuations in global oil markets and foreign exchange rates.

EPRA also highlighted that each fuel product experienced a different level of reduction, with Super Petrol seeing the highest decrease of Ksh2.00 per litre. The regulator added that the revised prices aim to ensure fairness and stability in the market while protecting consumers from excessive costs.

This latest review comes amid ongoing efforts by the government and regulatory bodies to monitor fuel pricing, stabilize supply, and limit sudden price shocks at the pump.

Consumers are expected to benefit from the reduced costs in transportation, household energy, and goods that rely on fuel for production and delivery.
