Why ex-MP has joined UDA Party, ditching Kalonzo’s Wiper

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan on Saturday, October 25 officially welcomed Rashid Kassim Amin, the immediate former Member of Parliament for Wajir East.

Kassim has defected from the Wiper Democratic Movement to join the UDA Party. In officially joing the ruling party, Rashid was accompanied by Yusuf Abdi, OGW, from the Executive Office of the President.

Kassim stated that as a representative of the people of Wajir, he could not stand aside or oppose a government that is delivering tangible results for his constituents.

He explained that his decision was the outcome of deep reflection and extensive consultations with community elders, religious leaders, and his supporters.

He emphasized that his move to UDA was not motivated by personal ambition or political convenience, but by a genuine commitment to development, partnership, and public service. Kassim underscored that his foremost objective is to ensure that the people of Wajir and the greater Northern Kenya region are fully integrated into President William Ruto’s national transformation agenda.

Kassim further pledged to be a dependable partner in implementing the government’s development programmes and a strong, unwavering voice for the people of Wajir and the entire North Eastern region.

This move comes a month after Kassim, popularly known as Simba, declared his interest in reclaiming the Wajir East Parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
