Exiled at Carrington: Manchester United’s unwanted five ostracized as team prepares for pre-season

Manchester United’s so called “infamous five” will be remaining at Carrington as United kick off their pre-season this Saturday against Leeds united in Stockholm. Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia and Antony have all been left out of Man United’s pre-season squad, and they have been earmarked by the club for removal as part of a sweeping squad overhaul.

Having been told that they do not have a future under amorim, these players have all submitted formal requests to leave Manchester United, having grown increasingly disillusioned with their roles under coach Amorim.

The Mirror reports that Amorim’s decision to leave these players out of the squad does not have complete approval from the club’s staff, with divisions emanating.

Rashford and Garnacho, both academy graduates, were once central figures in the club’s future plans but now find themselves isolated in training, barred from first team preparation, and told to report at odd hours alone in Carrington’s peripheries.

For instance, they have been told to arrive at Carrington after 5 pm (British time), when the rest of the players have left for the day.

Antony, Sancho and Malacia spent time away on loan from United this season and with all three costing a combined £171 million in transfer fees, it seemingly looks like United will not be getting anything near that sum to recuperate their losses. Both wingers were once touted as the future of the club and now they are easily seen as some of the biggest flops.

United have already signed Matheus Cunha for £62.5 million from Wolverhampton Wanderers. To add salt to injuries,. Cunha has been given Rashford’s No.10 shirt.

Rashford has reportedly earned interest from Barcelona and Fenerbache and the player has expressed his feelings publicly of wanting to play with Blaugrana star Lamine Yamal. According to reports in Italy, Sancho has reportedly agreed terms with Juventus and are currently negotiating a deal worth £15 million, but United are insisting on a £20 million fee.

Antony remains firm on wanting to return to Betis and rejected an approach from Como FC. He is determined to return back to Spain. Former United manager Erik Ten Hag has already told German news outlets that Leverkusen are not interested in signing his former charge. Garnacho has been linked with clubs in the Bundesliga but wants to stay in England.

This entire ordeal has veteran legends like Paul Scholes has warned the club that selling young homegrown players like Garnacho damages the credibility even if it helped fund new signings. others argue united’s problems won’t be solved by scapegoating a few individuals.

Amorim is tasked with implementing his own play style and his preference is hard working, tactically disciplined players and has no room for vanity signings or emotional sentiment. The message is clear, United is burning the past to forge a new identity.
