‘Fire-Pawa’: DP Kindiki coins new slogan at UDA-ODM PG meeting

There is a new political slogan in town… and who else to coin a brand-new phrase expected to take political rallies by storm, other than Deputy President Kithure Kindiki?

The professor of law was among the high-profile leaders, alongside President William Ruto and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga, who graced the UDA-ODM Joint Parliamentary Group meeting in Nairobi.

Speaking during the PG meeting on Tuesday, March 10, DP Kindiki used the opportunity to welcome Oburu, in his capacity as ODM Party Leader, to introduce the new catchphrase.

“Kwa sababu anatafuta power, na mimi ni fireman, leo ni fire power,” Kindiki roared, inducing a laughter from the UDA-ODM parliamentarians.

Oburu, in recent political rallies of the Linda Ground ODM faction, has been insisting that the orange party will not be reduced to mere flower girls in the broad-based government arrangement.

According to Oburu, ODM is targeting one of their own to be President Ruto’s running mate in 2027 polls, ambitions that have threatened to create faults within the Kenya Kwanza administration. A section of lawmakers and state officers from the Mt Kenya region, in particular, have found this bold statement disrespectful, and they believe Kindiki should be Ruto’s running mate.

‘Sisi tunataka power’ has been the overriding catchphrase for the ODM Linda Ground faction, demanding for the second in command slot within the broad-based government.

By combining “tunataka power” with his “fire si fire” slogans to get “Fire-Power”, DP Kindiki has embodied the spirit of mutual respect and co-existence within the broad-based government, even as different groups fight for a considerable share of power.

UDA-ODM PG meeting

Today’s PG was convened to primarily review and coordinate the implementation of a report by the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO), which came up with a 10-point agenda to foster collaboration and stabilise Kenya’s political environment.

The 10-point agenda framework sought among others, reduce political tensions following periods of protests and political divisions, tackling high cost of living, auding public debts, restructuring IEBC, safeguarding the right to peaceful protests and promoting inclusivity in government appointments.
