FKFPL: Alpha Onyango’s late low strike hands Gor Mahia narrow win over APS Bomet

Gor Mahia maintained their winning start to the 2026/27 FKF Premier League season with a 1-0 victory over APS Bomet at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

Alpha Cris Onyango scored the decisive goal in the 84th minute to secure all three points for the 22-time Kenyan champions, who had opened their campaign with a 4-2 win over Murang’a SEAL.

The result extended Gor Mahia’s perfect start to two victories as they pursue another league title, while APS Bomet suffered their first defeat after opening their campaign with a goalless draw against Mathare United.

The two sides went into the break level at 0-0 after a tightly contested first half. APS Bomet were forced into an early change in the 20th minute when Maxwell Kubasu came off injured.

Gor Mahia introduced Hansel Ochieng for Denis Omedi at the start of the second half before making further changes in the 65th minute, bringing on Ben Stanley, Enock Machaka and Daniel Sakari for Patrick Esombe, Jackson Dwang and Ochuoga.

APS Bomet increased the pressure and enjoyed spells of possession in Gor Mahia’s half, but the visitors found the breakthrough six minutes from time.

Sakari initiated the move on the right before Ben Stanley Omondi set up Onyango outside the box. The midfielder fired a low, long-range shot into the net to give Gor Mahia the lead and score his second goal of the season.

The goal proved decisive as Gor Mahia held on through the three minutes of added time to claim a crucial away victory, with Sammy Pamzo Omollo’s APS Bomet side left searching for their first win of the campaign.

In another Matchweek two fixture of the day played at Police Sacco Stadium in Nairobi, KCB FC secured a 1-0 victory over Mathare United.

New signing Mambote Batshi Assis scored in the 85th minute to hand the Bankers their first win of the league season.
