Former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner and Wajir East parliamentary aspirant Mohamed Ahmed Maalim, popularly known as Kadeenge, has urged eligible Wajir County residents to register as voters ahead of the 2027 General Election, saying the strength of the community at the ballot will be key in determining its political future.
Speaking during a meeting with Masare elders, Kadeenge said residents must take voter registration seriously and ensure that every eligible citizen is captured in the voters’ register. He noted that voter registration gives citizens the opportunity to participate directly in choosing leaders who will champion their interests and address challenges facing the county.
Kadeenge said his decision to seek the Wajir East parliamentary seat is informed by years of experience in public administration and leadership.
Having served as a Regional Commissioner, he said he understands the workings of government and the importance of effective coordination between national and county institutions in delivering services to citizens.
He said he intends to use the experience gained in public service to strengthen development partnerships, improve access to government programmes and ensure that residents are able to benefit from opportunities available through both levels of government. He pledged to bring a leadership approach focused on results, accountability and effective representation.
The aspirant further said Wajir East requires a strong voice in Parliament capable of articulating the needs of the constituency and pushing for interventions in key sectors including education, healthcare, water, infrastructure, security and youth empowerment.
He said his administrative background would give him an advantage in navigating government structures and following up on development priorities.
Kadeenge also called on young people to take an active role in the political process, urging them to register in large numbers and participate in shaping the leadership of the future. He said the youth should not only be viewed as voters but as partners in development and should be given greater opportunities to participate in economic and public affairs.
He urged community leaders to support efforts to mobilize eligible residents for registration, saying a strong voter base would give Wajir residents greater influence in determining their political representation.
He Kadeenge maintained that the 2027 election should be approached with a focus on leadership, accountability and the development needs of the people.
