Four killed in renewed Marsabit ethnic clashes

Four people have been reported dead and several others injured in what authorities say is renewed ethnic clashes in Dukana area, Marsabit County.

While speaking to TV47 on Monday, May 19, Marsabit County Commissioner James Kamau said that the killings have sent panic in the area, with some of the affected locals seeking refuge in Dukana Police Station.

The county commissioner warned those inciting ethnic hatred in the area, saying that more police officers have been sent to the area to restore order.

Kamau said that at the moment, 26 individuals — including local politicians — are under investigations for inciting the Gabra and Wayu communities.

On his part, Adan Chukulisa, the vice-chairperson of the Marsabit Peace Committee, urged residents not to engage in retaliatory attacks.
