Gachagua was extremely careful with Koimburi after fake abduction embarrassment – DCP

Rigathi Gachagua has been extremely careful with Juja MP George Koimburi after he embarrassed him by staging his own abduction, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) now says.

In a statement from Secretary-General Hezron Obaga, DCP says that MP Koimburi lied to Party Leader Gachagua that he had been abducted by police back in May 2025, only to learn that he had staged his own abduction to avoid arrest over land fraud cases.

Investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) concluded that the legislator had stage-managed his own abduction. Three people, including Juja CDF Chairperson, were arrested, and later confessed that they carried out the alleged kidnapping.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other leaders when they visited Juja MP George Koimburi in the hospital after he was admitted following an alleged torture by his abductors in May 2025. The DCI later discovered that the legislator had staged his own abduction, to avoid arrest and prosecution in various cases of land fraud, and fake academic certificates.

It is for this reason that DCP Party says Party Leader Gachagua has been careful with Koimburi, to avoid any embarrassments.

“Our party leader defended him publicly castigating the said abduction only to learn it was a classical con game,” the party rues.

This comes a day after Koimburi announced that he had ditched DCP Party, citing betrayal.

According to the party, Koimburi demanded that he be exempted from attending public functions with Gachagua until February 2027 to slow down the prosecution of the various criminal cases facing him. “He threatened to move back to rejoin William Ruto if his conditions were not met.”

The party, however, maintains that Koimburi has never been a member of DCP, accusing him of being President William Ruto’s mole in the opposition.
