The scintilating Beatrice Chebet delivered Kenya’s first gold medal at the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo, Japan on Saturday, September 13 afternoon.
Chebet produced a spectacular final lap sprint in the women’s 10,000mrace, finishing in 30:37.61.
Despite being a debutant at the World Championships 10,000m, the 25-year-old displayed her prowess by tracking defending champion Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia, and waiting until the final bend to unleash a devastating sprint.
Italian Nadia Battocletti finished second to secure a silver medal in 30:38.23, while Tsegay settled for bronze in 30:39.65.
With the win, Chebet adds the title to her Olympic gold and world record over the distance.
