A peaceful demonstration by clinical officers in Wote, Makueni County, turned chaotic after suspected goons allegedly invaded the protest and assaulted health workers with crude weapons.
The clinical officers were heading to present their grievances to Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior over the implementation of agreements in the Return-to-Work Formula.
The officers are demanding, among other issues, the creation of a Director of Clinical Services position at Job Group R, implementation of the approved Career Guidelines from May 8, 2024, enhanced risk allowances and arrears, and permanent and pensionable terms for eligible staff.
Meanwhile, the county government apologised for the incident and said progress had been made in addressing most of the grievances, while health officials cited inadequate funding and staffing as a major challenge.
