The recruitment exercise for police constables is ongoing across Kisumu County, drawing large numbers of young applicants hoping to join the National Police Service.
The process is being conducted at various designated centres, including Ojola in Kisumu West, Mamboleo Grounds in Kisumu East, as well as additional stations in Nyando, Kadibo, Kombewa, Rabuor, Chemelil and Pap Onditi.
At the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Complex, one of the main recruitment centres in the county, hundreds of youths arrived as early as dawn for initial screening and interviews.
Many expressed strong ambition and optimism, viewing the opportunity as a gateway to serving the nation and building a stable career in security.

Officers on the ground reported an orderly turnout, with most candidates observing the requirements issued by the National Police Service.
However, not all applicants were successful in proceeding with the day’s assessment. A number of young people were turned away for arriving past the scheduled reporting time, which is strictly enforced to maintain fairness and proper documentation.
Others failed to qualify after it was established that they had surpassed the required maximum age of twenty-eight years, one of the key criteria for joining the service.
In addition to age limits, the recruitment team is also vetting candidates based on physical fitness, height requirements, medical fitness, academic qualifications, and good conduct.
Officers overseeing the process have emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring a transparent and corruption free exercise.
They further noted that any form of malpractice or attempts to influence the process unlawfully will lead to immediate disqualification.
As the exercise continues across all centres in Kisumu County, authorities have called on applicants to adhere strictly to the guidelines provided and to present themselves with honesty and discipline.
They also urged parents and guardians to support their children by discouraging any involvement in bribery or forged documents, reiterating that the recruitment process is being conducted purely on merit.
The nationwide recruitment drive is part of ongoing government efforts to strengthen security services by increasing the number of trained officers deployed across the country.
