Ida Odinga has disclosed that her personal net worth stands at approximately Ksh500 million as she appeared before the National Assembly for vetting following her nomination as Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Speaking before the National Assembly Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations chaired by Belgut MP Nelson Koech on Friday, February 20, 2026, Ida clarified the difference between assets registered in her name and those owned collectively by the wider Odinga family.
“There are things that belong to me, Ida, and then there are things that belong to the Odinga family, in whom I also have an interest, but my net worth is about Ksh 500 million,” she stated.

Her nomination was made public on January 23, 2026, and is currently awaiting parliamentary approval in line with constitutional requirements. If approved, she will succeed Ababu Namwamba, who has been serving in the role since January 2025.
The UNEP headquarters is based in Nairobi, placing the position among Kenya’s most significant diplomatic assignments within the United Nations system.
As Permanent Representative, Ida would articulate Kenya’s stance in global environmental negotiations and participate in key international forums shaping climate and sustainability policies.
During the vetting session, she expressed appreciation to William Ruto for the appointment.
“I thank President William Ruto for the trust he has placed in me by nominating me to serve our nation in this important global diplomatic role (Kenya’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to UNEP).
I am also grateful for the messages of goodwill, the support and all the advice I have received from my friends, colleagues and fellow Kenyans since my nomination.”
She pledged to serve diligently if granted the opportunity.
