Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC) CEO Dr. Kipkurui Chepkwony has called for a ceasefire between senators and governors following rising tensions between the two institutions.
This comes after an incident on Wednesday in which senators were accused of forcefully compelling Samburu Governor Lati Lelelit to appear before a Senate committee, further straining relations between the two sides.
Speaking in Machakos during a group conference meeting, Dr. Chepkwony urged both parties to de-escalate the situation, warning that continued hostility could undermine constitutional implementation and disrupt county finances.
He noted that governors have previously raised concerns over alleged misconduct by the Senate, stressing that it is time for the House to “put its affairs in order” to avoid a repeat of such incidents.

Dr. Chepkwony also questioned the conduct and credibility of the committee, arguing that the use of force to compel governors to appear before it is not provided for within the Constitution. He emphasized that there are established legal frameworks that should guide engagement between the two levels of government.
