Lang’ata Member of Parliament (MP) Phelix Odiwuor aka Jalang’o has expressed regret over joining politics, saying that if he knew what he was getting himself into, he would not have made that decision.
Speaking in an interview with Radio47 Presenter Alex Mwakideu, the first-time MP said “if I knew what politics is really about, I would have never got myself into it.”
The legislator told Mwakideu that Kenyan politics is a very expensive affair. In fact, Jalang’o rued that Kenyans have a bad tendency of subscribing to handout politics, where they expect a politician to be wealthy so that he or she can dish out money whenever and wherever they visit the electorate.
“Siasa za nchi hii ni pesa, ukabila na kitu kubwa zaidi ni ukabila. Politics is about numbers,” he stated. “KSh1.5 billion is only enough for four days in a presidential campaign.”
According to Jalang’o, a politician can spend roughly KSh10 billion on merchandise alone in a presidential campaign. “Katika campaign ya Rais budget inakua ni ya watu elfu kumi na hao watu elfu kumi sio eti wamekuja tu wamewachiliwa kitu ndio wakuje.”
‘Ruto will be elected’
Nonetheless, Jalang’o said that President William Ruto will be re-elected in the 2027 General Election.
“President William Ruto will be re-elected by a wide margin. I haven’t seen anyone who can defeat him. Ruto going home is going to be hard, and getting him from that seat is going to be harder,” Jalang’o said.
Jalang’o is of the opinion that President Ruto’s performance over the last two and half years is incredible, and that he is on course to deliver on the campaign promises he made to Kenyans.
