Jimmy Charles Mureithi, a man who allegedly published information on Facebook claiming that Ms Loise Makena swindled Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro KSh200 million was on Monday, April 8 arraigned.

Mureithi appeared before the Mombasa Law Court Senior Resident Magistrate David Odhiambo, to answer to charges of publishing false information contrary to Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act of 2018.

He was arrested on Sunday, April 7.

The court heard that on an unknown date, time and place, Mureithi knowingly published — through Facebook account name ‘Mureithi Wa Lucy’ — information that the complainant says are false.

The post claimed that Makena swindled Governor Mung’aro KSh200 million, an act which is “likely to discredit the reputation of Ms. Loise Makena.

A court document says that Ms Loise Makena, Francis Ngala and others to be stated are the witnesses in the case.

Magistrate Odhiambo directed that the suspect remains in custody for two days after which he will be released on a bond of KSh500,000 with one surety of a similar amount.

He also directed that the accused undergo a mandatory mental check-up.

The case will be mentioned on Thursday, April 11 for further directions.
