Only Raila Odinga can beat President William Ruto if he runs in 2027 Presidential Election, this is according to Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kaluma.
MP Kaluma says that none of the current opposition leaders can coin a massive and effective campaign to unseat President Ruto.
The outspoken legislator further says that even if the opposition would manage to remain united and support one presidential candidate going into the next general election, that candidate will not garner even 15% of the total votes cast.
Only Baba Raila Odinga can beat President William Ruto if he runs in 2027. The other so called “opposition leaders”, working together, can’t muster even 15% of Kenya’s total vote,” Kaluma said in a post on X on Sunday, August 24 morning.
And writing with tongue in cheek, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker opined that if President Ruto and Raila form a coalition in 2027, then there is no need for the country to waste money in organising and conducting those elections.
“We don’t need to spend money on Presidential election in 2027 were Baba [Raila] to go into a coalition with President Ruto – IT WOULD BE DONE!”
In March 2025, the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and ODM signed a unity deal that saw the opposition party vow to work with and support the Government of President William Ruto.
In a joint Parliamentary Group meeting attended by both President Ruto and Raila last week, Kenya Kwanza and ODM lawmakers resolved to work together in Parliament under a bipartisan framework, pledging to priotise national unity and implementation of a joint 10-point agenda.
The MPs and Senators also vowed to put aside their partisan divisions to advance the national interest and foster reconciliation, dialogue, and inclusion across the country.
Currently, all indications point to a Ruto-Raila coalition in 2027 Presidential Race. However, a week is a long time in politics.
