KDF Officer, policeman and civilian arrested over alleged extortion in Mtito Andei

DCI Sleuths stationed in Mtito Andei have arrested three suspects accused of extorting money from bar owners and members of the public while posing as security officers.

According to investigators, the suspects allegedly moved from one entertainment establishment to another demanding money from business owners.

“The trio was reported to be cruising through the township in a white Toyota Axio, flashing confidence and fear in equal measure, as they extorted bar owners their hard-earned cash,” the DCI said in an x(formerly twitter)

The suspects were identified as Samuel Ogando Odoyo, a member of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF); Onyango Nelson Kasera, a police officer; and Joseph Mulwa Mwambi, a civilian.

Detectives acted quickly after receiving reports from victims, leading to their arrest.

Authorities also discovered that the vehicle the suspects were using had fake registration details.

“The vehicle they were using bore a fake registration number, KDB 648W, while its true identity was established as KDD 574W,” the DCI stated.

A search conducted inside the car recovered several items believed to have been used to intimidate victims.

“A search of the car unearthed a black pistol holster, a pair of handcuffs, and other items,” detectives said.

The suspects were later placed in an identification parade, where complainants reportedly confirmed their identities.

“The suspects were immediately taken into custody and later subjected to an identification parade, where the victims positively identified them,” the statement added.

Police say the three are currently being processed and will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
