The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Special Forces team has killed five Al-Shabaab militants in Lacta Mangai, within the expansive Boni Forest, Lamu County.

The special forces team was on an intelligence-led patrol in the area when they discovered and neutralised a makeshift Al-Shabaab camp. Several other militants escaped with injuries.

During the operation, KDF recovered significant operational items of the Somali-based militant group, including AK-47 rifles, RPG launchers with warheads, rounds and ammunition, solar panels, tents, and various materials used for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

“Operation Amani Boni (OAB) remains committed to restoring lasting peace and security in the Boni region, ensuring that families can live without fear,” KDF says in a statement.

The KDF is also calling on citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to support its mission. “Together, we will exterminate terrorism and ensure a peaceful Boni.”
