Kenya Airways (KQ) on Friday, October 17 announced that it is increasing flight frequency to Kisumu City over this weekend.
In a statement, the national carrier said increasing flights is meant to accomodate the high travel demand ahead of the burial of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
“We’ve increased our flight frequency to Kisumu over the weekend to accommodate the high travel demand,” KQ announced.
On Friday, October 17, there will be additional flights KQ656 (1330 HRS) and KQ658 (1900 HRS). On Saturday, October 18, there will be additional flight KQ650 (0650 HRS), while KQ654 (0805 HRS) will be upgraded to Boeing 737.
On Sunday, October 19, flight KQ654 (0805 HRS) will be upgraded to Boeing 737, while flight KQ671 (1900 HRS) will be upgraded to Boeing 737.
Equally important, to facilitate the Monday, October 20 return of mourners who will have traveled to the funeral service, flight KQ654 will be upgraded to Boeing 737, while flight KQ670 will be upgraded to Boeing 737.
“We remain committed to ensuring seamless travel for all our guests,” KQ assures the public.
After a public viewing exercise today at Nyayo National Stadium, the body of Raila will be taken to Lee Funeral Home to stay overnight. The body will then be airlifted to Kisumu on Saturday, October 18 morning.
A major public viewing will take place at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium (Mamboleo) between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
A motorcade will then escort the body by road from Kisumu to the final destination, his rural home in Bondo, Siaya County, for a final overnight vigil at Opoda Farm.
The funeral service and burial rites will take place at his Opoda Farm home in Bondo, Siaya County.
As per his last wishes, Raila Odinga will be laid to rest beside his mother, Mary Ajuma Odinga.
