This weekend marks a major highlight on Kenya’s golfing calendar with a triple-header of events, from the final scramble for the NCBA Golf Series grand finale spots to the prestigious NCBA Tea Fields Trophy and a huge junior golf turnout.
The action kicks off with the NCBA Golf Series qualifying round at the Great Rift Valley Lodge this Saturday, October 4th.
Six golfers, including the Overall Men’s and Ladies’ Gross Winners, will punch their tickets for the grand finale set for November 28th at Muthaiga Golf Club.
Securing a slot is paramount, and the competition is expected to be fierce across all divisions.
Meanwhile, the main attraction is the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) Series’ stop in Kericho for the NCBA Tea Fields Trophy, running from Friday, October 3rd, through Sunday, October 5th. A substantial KES 500,000 prize purse is on the line for the field of 67 players.
All eyes will be on last year’s runner-up, Kenyan star Kevin Juma, who headlines the event in the absence of defending champion Titus Okwang of Uganda.
Juma is set for a challenging battle against top contenders like Sammy Mulama, Elly Barno, and Isaac Makokha. The competition is further intensified by the presence of third-ranked KAGC player Elvis Muigua, who is keen to close the gap on overall leader Michael Karanga.
The future of Kenyan golf will also be on full display with the U.S. Kids Golf Fall Tour staging two events on Sunday: the Mombasa Tour at Nyali Golf Club and the Nairobi Tour at Thika Sports Club. Over 200 junior golfers aged 5 to 18 are expected to participate, reflecting the sport’s growing popularity at the grassroots level.
