Kilifi woman arrested as detectives recover 150 rolls of bhang

A woman has been arrested in Kilifi County after detectives recovered 150 rolls of bhang during a raid conducted at her residence, in yet another crackdown on narcotics trafficking in the coastal region.

In a statement shared on 9 May 2026, Directorate of Criminal Investigations said officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) acted on credible intelligence before moving in on the suspect’s home, where the illicit substance was discovered.

The suspect, identified as Tabitha Akoth Adede, was taken into custody following the operation.

“Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) detectives in Kilifi County have arrested Tabitha Akoth Adede following the recovery of 150 rolls of bhang from her possession,” the DCI said.

According to the agency, detectives carried out a thorough search of the residence after receiving intelligence reports linking the suspect to narcotics-related activities.

“Acting on credible intelligence, the detectives raided the suspect’s residence, where a thorough search led to the discovery and seizure of the narcotics,” the statement added.

Authorities confirmed that the recovered bhang has been secured as evidence as investigations continue, while the suspect remains in police custody pending arraignment in court.

“The suspect is currently in custody undergoing processing pending arraignment, while the recovered bhang has been secured as exhibit,” DCI stated.

The arrest underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to intensify the fight against the illegal drug trade, which remains a major concern in parts of the Coast region.

Detectives say operations targeting drug traffickers and distributors will continue as part of broader efforts to dismantle narcotics networks operating within the county.
