Kioni slams ‘retrogressive’ Gachagua, says Uhuru’s Jubilee Party will shock Kenyans in 2027

Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni has launched a scathing attack against Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, over what he terms as playing retrogressive politics.

Kioni took issues with Gachagua’s sentiments that his DCP Party will dominate Mt. Kenya region politics in the 2027 General Election, and that anyone who will not have joined DCP in the run-up to the polls will have committed political suicide.

Speaking on TV47’s Daily Report Show hosted by Abubakar Abdullahi on Monday, June 16, Kioni slammed Gachagua, and his allies, thinking as not only retrogressive, but that it was killing Kenya’s spirit of multi-party democracy.

“I have heard people saying that this region (Mt Kenya) will only have one political party, and that if you are not coming through my political party, you are a nobody. That is retrogressive thinking. It demonstrates a person who either has not paid attention to the history of this country, or who thinks we were selling njugu karanga when people were being killed because of advocating for multi-party democracy,” Kioni said.

The former Ndaragwa MP emphasised that when selling his newly-launched DCP Party, it was noble for Gachagua to ensure that he is not “killing other parties” in the process.

In a previous interview with TV47 Digital, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya posited that just like the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party euphoria that swept the Mt Kenya region in 2022, many sitting legislators will fall casualty to a DCP Party euphoria in 2027.

In fact, Gakuya emphasised that any politician who will not pledge allegiance to DCP Party and its leader Gachagua will be voted out by the electorate.

“I can tell you, when a euphoria comes you can’t stop it, and in Mt Kenya I am not seeing it changing,” Gakuya said, insisting, “For sure, this euphoria will exit many, so it is upon you to decide whether you stay put or you cross the border.”

‘Don’t underestimate Jubilee’

According to Kioni, Jubilee Party, under the leadership of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, was still a force to reckon with in Kenya’s politics, and that it will assert its dominance in the coming elections.

“Jubilee Party is not a pale shadow of its former self. We have not being in power for the last two years. We left those in power to demonstrate that they can do better than us. They have failed to do so, and that is why the whole country is up in arms against them,” Kioni added.
