Kenya Power has announced that flooding at its South C Substation has disrupted electricity supply in several parts of Nairobi following heavy rains that pounded the city on Friday night.
In a customer alert issued on Saturday, the power utility expressed sympathy to families and communities affected by the intense rainfall across the capital and its surrounding areas.
“Kenya Power extends its deepest sympathies to all the families and communities affected by the heavy rains that swept across Nairobi and its environs on Friday night,” the statement read.
According to the company, the floods led to water entering the South C Substation after a section of the facility’s perimeter wall collapsed.

“The floods, unfortunately, caused flooding in our South C Substation after part of the boundary wall collapsed,” the utility said.
As a result, electricity supply has been interrupted in multiple neighbourhoods including South B, South C, Nairobi West, Madaraka Estate, Strathmore, Dam Estate, Lang’ata, Wilson Airport, Carnivore, Kenyatta Market, Ngumo Estate, Industrial Area and Uhuru Gardens, among other surrounding locations.
Kenya Power noted that engineers were dispatched immediately and are currently assessing the extent of the damage to electrical infrastructure.
“Our engineers are already on site, carefully assessing the damage to electrical equipment and working tirelessly to carry out the necessary tests and repairs,” the company stated.
To minimize disruption, the utility added that some customers may be temporarily connected to nearby substations where possible.
“Where possible, we are switching some customers to adjacent substations to ease the impact,” the notice explained.
The company apologized to affected customers for the inconvenience and thanked them for their patience as restoration efforts continue.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience and understanding,” the statement added.
Residents have been encouraged to report electricity-related incidents through the company’s service code *977# as repair teams continue working to restore power in the affected parts of Nairobi.
