Following the Nairobi leg of the HSBC SVNS2 series, Kenya’s national sevens teams the Lionesses and Shujaa have entered a high-performance residential camp as they step up preparations for the upcoming South American legs.
The two squads are currently training at the Moi International Sports Centre, where the focus is on tactical sharpening, physical conditioning and strengthening squad chemistry ahead of the decisive tournaments in Montevideo and São Paulo.
The Lionesses, who finished fifth in Nairobi, are aiming higher as they chase crucial points in the remaining legs.
Head Coach Simon Odong’o said the target is clear a top-three finish in both South American tournaments to boost their chances of making the Championship playoffs.
On the men’s side, Shujaa are equally determined as they pursue a return to the HSBC SVNS main series.
Head Coach Kevin Wambua expressed confidence in the squad’s mindset, noting that every training session in camp is structured around securing promotion back to the top-tier circuit.
With valuable qualification points still up for grabs, strong performances in South America could define Kenya’s pathway back to the main HSBC SVNS stage.
The Montevideo leg is scheduled for March 21–22, followed by São Paulo on March 28–29. Both teams are set to depart for South America on March 15 and will return at the end of the month. Fixtures are expected to be released in due course.
