The Social Health Authority (SHA) has suspended 45 health facilities across the country,
In a gazette notice dated Tuesday, August 26, SHA Chief Executive Officer Dr Mercy Mwangangi said the temporary suspension will cut the facilities off from accessing the national social health scheme.
“In accordance with the provisions of the Social Health Insurance Act, the health facilities set out in the Schedule shall not be entitled to any benefit from the Social Health Authority during the period of their suspension,” the notice read in part.
Dr Mwangangi did not disclose the exact reason why the facilities were suspended.

Duale’s warning
In a press briefing on Monday, August 26, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale revealed that the Ministry will be de-gazetting 45 health facilities flagged for fraudulent activities after following digital audit. This is in addition to the 40 already suspended.
Malpractices uncovered during the audit, CS Duale said, include falsifying records, inflating and phantom billing, upcoding and converting outpatient visits into costly inpatient claims, actions that rob Kenyans of quality care.
“I confirmed the disbursement of KES 7.7 billion to Primary Health Care (PHC), a key pillar of our transformative agenda and issued a stern warning that all fraudulent providers, facilities and patients will face prosecution and recovery of funds,” Duale warned. “I also urged Kenyans to report suspected fraud via SHA’s toll-free line 147. To reinforce accountability, we are partnering with leading medical insurers on a Joint Anti-Fraud Action, part of broader reforms to protect public resources, strengthen partnerships and restore trust in the health sector as we advance UHC.”
