Liverpool foward Diogo Jota dies in a tragic car accident in Spain

Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota has tragically passed away following a car accident in Spain, according to multiple media reports from Spain and Portugal.

The football world is in mourning after the 28-year-old and his brother, Andre Jota, who played for Penafiel, were both killed in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The fatal accident reportedly occurred at around 1:30 a.m. in Zamora, a region in northwestern Spain. According to a report from zamora24horas, emergency services responded swiftly to the scene after several distress calls were made to the 1-1-2 Castilla y León operations room.

The crash happened at kilometre 65 of the A-52 highway, in the municipality of Cernadilla.

Authorities, including the Traffic Civil Guard, the Fire Brigade of the Provincial Council of Zamora, and the Emergency Coordination Centre (CCU) of Health Emergencies – Sacyl, were dispatched.

Medical teams from the Mombuey Health Center confirmed the deaths of both Diogo and Andre at the scene. The vehicle was reportedly on fire when first responders arrived.

This heartbreaking news comes just days after Jota celebrated his marriage to long-term partner Rute Cardoso in Porto, Portugal.

The football community, including Liverpool FC and the Portuguese national team, is expected to pay tribute to the talented forward, whose career was marked by skill, passion, and dedication.
