Lukenya School makes history as final lineups set at Brookside secondary school games

History is unfolding at the 2026 Brookside Secondary School Games in Kisumu, as teams across disciplines deliver standout performances to book their places in the finals.

In basketball, Lukenya has etched its name into the history books, becoming the first team from the Eastern Region to reach a national final. They stunned hosts St Mary’s Yala with a commanding 67-49 victory to secure their spot in the championship clash.

They will now face Friends School Kamusinga, who knocked out defending champions Leiser Hill 65-53 in a high-intensity semifinal to set up a thrilling final showdown.

In the girls’ basketball category, defending champions Butere will take on coastal champions Kaya Tiwi in what promises to be an exciting battle for the title.

Handball will also see fierce rivalries renewed, with Musingu set to face St Joseph’s (JOBO) in the boys’ final. In the girls’ category, Moi Girls Kamusinga will go head-to-head with St Joseph’s as teams eye national glory.

In rugby, a new champion will be crowned this year, and Upper Hill School are firmly in contention. They remain unbeaten after four matches and showcased their dominance in a narrow 12-11 semifinal victory over Kakamega School.

Upper Hill will now face Kisii School in the final, after Kisii secured a convincing 13-3 win over St Mary’s Yala. In the girls’ category, St Joseph’s will clash with Kinale Girls in the final.

Hockey action has been equally thrilling. In the girls’ category, St Joseph’s Kitale booked their place in the final with a dominant 4-0 win over AIC Nyayo. They will face Nyamira, who edged out Ngiya 4-3 after a 2-2 draw in regular time.

In the boys’ hockey category, Friends School Kamusinga will take on St Anthony’s Boys Kitale in the final, setting up yet another exciting encounter.

As the tournament heads into its final stage, anticipation continues to build in Kisumu, with teams now just one match away from glory in what has been a historic and action-packed edition of the Brookside Secondary School Games.
