Ida Odinga, the spouse of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has broke her silence following his death in Kochi City, India.
Speaking in Karen, Nairobi, an emotional Ida struggled to give a speech to hundreds of mourners who had assembled.
She said, “poleni sana najua nyinyi wote mmeshtuka kwa yale yametokea. Hatukutegemea ingekuwa hivi, lakini imeshafanyika. Kwa hivyo mtulie.”
Ida was flanked by Governors Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay) and Wavinya Ndeti (Machakos).

News of Raila’s passing shocked the nation on Wednesday, October 15 morning, with Indian newspaper Mathrubhumi reporting that Raila collapsed during a morning walk within a Ayurvedic hospital.
He was rushed to Devamatha Hospital in Koothattukulam, where he was pronounced dead at around 7:22 Kenyan time, the spokesperson of the Ayurvedic eye hospital confirmed, as reported by the newspaper.
Raila has been unwell in the recent past, having to travel out of the country for treatment.
Last week, Raila’s elder brother, Oburu Odinga, told the nation that Raila was recovering well in India after being slightly indisposed.
“I want to tell you that Raila is up and about. Just like any other human being, he was indisposed a little and is now recuperating and resting,” Oburu said.
Oburu clarified this after contradicting reports about Raila’s health. “He was not in those conditions that have been put in the press. I want to clarify that, and very soon you will see him.”
