Man faces life imprisonment after he was caught vandalising SGR infrastructure in Makindu

A man in Makindu area of Makueni County is in trouble after he was found in possession of vandalised metal rods from the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) infrastructure.

It all began when police officers from Makindu Railway Police Station got a report from a Meter Gauge Railway train driver that he had spotted two men vandalising the outer perimeter of the SGR.

Upon arriving at the said scene, the police officers established that indeed over ten concrete poles had been smashed and metal rods stolen.

A report says that the police officers traced one of the suspects to his home, where sections of the vandalised metal rods were recovered.

The suspect was arrested, and efforts to apprehend his accomplice(s) are ongoing.

“National Police Service reiterates its commitment to safeguarding critical infrastructure and warns that acts of vandalism will be dealt with decisively and in accordance with the law.”

According to Section 339(2)(c) of the Penal Code, any person caught vandalising railway infrastructure is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for life.
